Learn More About Cold War Bunker Sites

Streets of Europe are riddled with images of World War 2 bunkers.

Urban explorers discover abandoned WWII bunker.

Built at the end of the 1970s as a nuclear shelter to await nuclear war, the bunker has been abandoned for nearly 40 years. In search of a hidden incursion into the Cold War, a group of friends descended into the bunker, expecting secrecy and mystery. What they found was a history of a country left behind – a history of a country forgotten – a history of a city changed – a history of a doomed generation.

Documenting the forgotten Soviet Cold War bunkers is an intriguing hobby that has gained popularity over the last few years. It’s often very dificult to find proper documentation for these abandoned bunkers, but the initial exploration of the bunker is always highly rewarding. This Urbex experience offered little to no other photography beside the environment it provides, this is not a great place to take great photos. It’s low light, low contrast, and all around poor photography territory.

The United States Federal Government has been protecting the United States from terrorists and other criminal attacks since the attacks in 2001 in a variety of ways. One way in which the federal government has been protecting our country in recent years is by placing a number of underground bunkers in South Dakota, which is heavily inhabited.
